Undergraduate Internships


About the Program

Internships will center around four major areas to enhance the collegiate experience:

  • Career and Professional Development
  • Chapter Research and Archives
  • Social Engagement
  • Chapter Programming 

Each of the four positions would receive a $1,500 stipend each semester upon the successful completion of their work each semester. 

Internship meetings will start in mid-September and run through the second week of December. The spring semester will start in mid-January and run through the first week of May.

General Position Description

Program Specifics:

  • Remote position for undergraduate Mortar Board members
  • Position mirrors the academic calendar: Fall starts mid-September through mid-December; Spring starts mid-January through the first week of May.
  • 6-7 hours per week, flexible to the student’s schedule and agreed upon in advance with internship supervisor
    • 5 hours of independent work time
    • 1-2 hours of weekly meetings; mandatory meetings include a half-hour weekly 1:1 meeting and an hour-long weekly team meeting
  • $1,500 stipend paid at the end of each completed semester
  • Internships can be a full year or one semester; a full year is preferred

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Mortar Board membership
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects 
  • Self-starter with comfortability asking for help when needed
  • Familiar with technology including social media, Canva, Slack, Microsoft and/or Google Suite

Specific Internship Positions

Career Development and Programming Intern

The Career Development & Programming Intern will focus on the new Career Connections monthly series, assisting with program marketing, event preparation, and career education. Duties may include:

  • Writing bios and highlighting the professional journey of Career Connections presenters
  • Soliciting quotes and testimonials from program participants to help market and validate program
  • Assisting in the marketing and promotion of the Career Connections series
  • Creating and implementing a weekly career-based social media campaign

Chapter Research and Archives Intern

The Chapter Research and Archives Intern will work with chapters to document their history, current projects, and ensure the good work of chapters is well-documented. Duties may include:

  • Compiling chapter histories and traditions and keeping a national record of all chapter histories that can be easily shared with chapter leadership
  • Collecting governing documents including Constitutions and Bylaws for each chapter to ensure a copy exists with the national organization
  • Organizing past annual reports and action plans to create chapter information sheets giving an overview of traditions, events, and activities on each campus
  • Compiling outstanding events and activities into our national idea share documents

Social Engagement Intern

The Social Engagement Intern will focus on social media campaigns to engage more collegiate members in the national organization, build connections amongst members, and educate in a way members best receive information. Duties may include: 

  • Create and implement two social media campaigns each week to help drive engagement
  • Engage with chapter accounts on Instagram 
  • Investigate and test new ways to engage members through our social media platforms

Chapter Programming Intern

The Chapter Programming Intern will work to compile best practices, make recommendations, and create easy-to-implement guides for key Mortar Board chapter programs such as campus recognition, tapping, and community service. Duties may include:

  • Highlight current campus recognition projects and pull together several easy-to-implement examples for chapters
  • Compile ideas for tapping and work with chapters to document their tapping experiences
  • Showcase successful service-to-campus and service-to-alma-mater projects
  • Identify chapter fundraisers and develop a best practice guide to fundraising
