Chapter Visibility
The strongest Mortar Board chapters have one thing in common: chapter visibility. On campus, students, faculty, and staff know Mortar Board. Visibility is a mix of word-of-mouth, campus presence, relevant programs, and shared experiences.
Recruitment and Selection
Selecting new members of Mortar Board to carry is exciting, and the most important internal activity of your chapter. As a student governed society, you are the only ones who can select candidates to carry on the honor of Mortar Board membership on your campus.
Tapping and Initiation
Tapping is the way current members notify new members they have been selected for Mortar Board! This is a Mortar Board tradition dating back over a century and is best done in a public setting.
Officer and Advisor Transition
Each chapter should hold elections for new officers and train the incoming officers before Spring semester ends. The chapter's future success relies upon the information, advice, and support you provide the new officers to carry on your good work!

As an expert on the institution and the community, with a commitment to education, advisors are an essential part of Mortar Board as they guide their chapter and its members.
Mortar Board Experience: Chapter Fundraising
Chapters fundraise throughout the year to ensure they have money for service projects, team building, and supplies for initiation.
Mortar Board Experience: Recognition Programs
Part of the Mortar Board Experience is visibility through recognition. Most of our chapters host some type of recognition program or initiative. Recognition can take many forms, but all recognition initiatives help gain Mortar Board visibility to others on campus.
Mortar Board Experience: Service to Campus and Community
